Hey everybody, I know it`s been awhile since my last post. Now I`m back ,and I`ll be posting more frequently (hopefully). Alright, let`s talk about some music. It`s been a pretty good year for post-hardcore music, all alternative music even. Today I`m gonna talk about albums for the most part.

First off I`ve gotta talk about Emarosa, who released their  third studio album "versus" this past September. With new singer Bradley Scott Walden (formerly of Squid the Whale). This is a wonderful album from top to bottom. Walden is a great frontman with his own flair while at the same time keeping that familiar sound.
Next up is a band that I just discovered this year Pvris (pronounced Paris). Pvris is a three piece that released their first album White Noise this past November. They mix rock with electronic making it really hard for me to find their sub-genre, which isn't a bad thing. The best part is they re-recorded most of the songs "acoustically" in the empty room sessions. So if your looking for a really good album to fill your zune, I highly recommend them.
Next is an album I've been waiting four years, Devil from Chiodos. This is the bands fourth studio album, which is quite a feat in their genre. This is one of my favorite albums of this year. They still sound  exactly the same from when they started in 2001, and I love it.
Then we have an album I have mixed feelings about, Punk Goes Pop Vol.6 from Fearless records. Alright I'll admit there's a few good songs from some ok bands, but this isn't even punk anymore. They should rename it Hardcore Goes Pop.Which isn't a bad idea, but don't pretend your something your not. When you see August Burns Red covering Wrecking Ball you should take a minute and ponder.

Alright that's it for now. I hope you guys check out these great albums, and as always don't hesitate to send feedback. Like I said I'll be sure to put more time into this, and post more frequently. Until next time.

My Top 5 EDM Songs

(This is just a picture I drew of me and my friends playing music in their apartment. If ever we recorded a CD together, I would want this to be the album art.)

HOWDY! LONG TIME NO SEE!

Since I was made contributor, I have only made one post: the post to tell you all I was made contributor, which I still am. Work has been a very large priority lately, and I picked up a whole heck of a lot more hours than what I'm used to. As such, this place has taken a backseat for the time being.
I finally decided to take time out of everything else, and begin writing one out for you all. However, that will have to be saved for a later date, as I am still working out the details of all I want to go over. So, until the time when that is ready I'm going to leave you with this little gem:

MY TOP FIVE EDM SONGS
(Rather original, eh? )

This list has no rhyme or reason to it. It is solely MY personal favorites, what I consider to be the best dance/electronic songs out there; songs I think everyone should like, even if you aren't into that kind of thing, or are looking for songs that may get you into the genre.

(Even though this is listed as Foreign Beggars, I'm posting it as a song by Skrillex)
This was one of the first dubstep songs I had listened to, and actually liked. At this time I was in high school, and my friends and I all shared similar tastes in music, but we always made fun of From First to Last, in particular, their song "Emily". Knowing they had broken up, I looked them up on Wikipedia one night, and saw that the lead singer had went solo, doing something completely different. Listening to some of his stuff at the time I was not too impressed, so I let it sit for a while. Then I came back, heard this song, and instantly my mind was changed.

Another song from when I first started listening to electronic music, I remember when I heard this for the first time. I instantly downloaded it off of the Zune marketplace (RIP in Peace), and would play it every time I drove anywhere in town. Did it matter it was a 10 minute song with a 5 minute build-up?

OF COURSE NOT.

I would load my friends up in my PT Cruiser, turn my bass up on my car stereo to +9, and cruiser drive all the way to Taco Bell in style.

This is a more recent release, being part of a compilation album put together by the record label Monstercat. I don't know much about this artist, but I can say I eagerly await his next single, because this track is extremely well put together and produced.

This group reminds me a lot of Skrillex in the way their tracks are so raw, and exciting. If I had to compare dubstep to a more traditional music genre, it would have to be either Post-Hardcore, or even plain Hardcore. This track is very similar to my number five pick, so if you enjoyed that, you may very well enjoy this one also.

HONORABLE MENTIONS
(These tracks are really good, but they aren't quite my favorite)

#1. "Quantum" (Virtual Riot remix) - Astronaut
(Check out Virtual Riot's Soundcloud page here)
The original version of this song is good, by all means. It is very well done, well produced, and overall a track that I thoroughly enjoy. Astronaut does a thing where they take a popular track they put out, and have other artists remix it, allowing the fans to choose the best. The voted upon tracks are put onto a CD for all to enjoy. This happened to be one of those remixes.
When I first heard this track, I thought it felt rather lack-luster. The original is a very fast-paced, and exciting tune, comparable to a pop-punk track. The remix starts out at a slower pace, but retains all the intensity of the original. Then, suddenly, a heavy synth with remixed lyrics, and a rock drum beat lead into one of the heaviest drops I've heard (it sends chills down my spine every time.) After another chorus, you are lead into a bridge with a more melodic tune behind it; Softer drums, less synth, but more sub-bass tones. If you have the ability, turn your bass up as much as you can.
This track is a very solid remix, and commands respect. Even though Astronaut created the original track I give props to Virtual Riot for taking it, and making it unique.

THERE WE HAVE IT

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this somewhat lengthy post. Again, I apologize for the lack of content, but rest assured there will be more, and more often at that. Please, feel free to comment with your favorite tracks, and to give suggestions for future posts!

(Apologies for the weird highlighting at the top. For some reason Blogger decided that needed to be highlighted, and I can't change it.)

THE HUNTS

Hey guys, and welcome back. Today I thought I`d talk about something a little different. You guys are probably tired of reading about the same genre every week. So today I`m gonna be talking about a band that goes by the name,The Hunts.

The Hunts are an indie folk band from Chesapeake,Virginia. They are a seven member band consisting of two sisters and five brothers. we`ll start with the two sisters,Jennifer and Jessica(who are actually twins).         Jennifer is the oldest hunt by two minutes, she sings, writes lyrics, and plays many different instruments including the piano, viola, violin, and the guitar. Next we have Jessica, same as her sister she sings and writes lyrics, she plays the mandolin, banjo, and violin. Now for the boys, first is Joshua, the oldest brother he sings writes lyrics and plays the guitar. Josh is also a poet and a college graduate. Next is Jonathan,he is the main composer for the band as well as playing the guitar, piano, accordion, and some hand percussion. Next is Jordan,he sings plays the drums, violin, ukulele, and hand percussion. Jord recently graduated from high school.
Then we have Justin, out of everyone in the band Justin can play the most instruments, playing whatever the band needs. Justin also has two YouTube channels where he makes funny videos that usually include singing.  Finally we have Jamison,he`s the youngest member at only sixteen. JJ sings, plays the guitar, mandolin, drums, and the violin.
Now after that you should be seeing a pattern, all there names start with J.
The Hunts come from a christian background, and are very religious this can be heard in there choice of lyrics. Apart from music the band does charity work, for the last two summers and Christmas 2013 they went to Haiti and  taught music to children.

All seven members of this great band are talented in and out of music. I love the folk genre and I love this band. If you want to hear a great new folk band with a fresh sound I strongly suggest giving them a listen. That`s it for today, and as always fell free to leave a comment and tell me what you think of The Hunts,or give suggestions for future topics.

Reimagine

Hey guys,I`M BACK! The internet problems in my apartment were worked out. It`s good to be back,I`ve got a lot to talk about, but first I`m gonna start with a band that I absolutely love Hands Like Houses. They released their second studio album Unimagine, it`s already a great album with every song being better than the last. If that wasn't enough, they're releasing an EP containing five songs from Unimagine including Shapeshifters,Introduced Species,No parallels,A Tale of Outer Suburbia, and Developments. With each song getting a new name to match the name of the EP. The changes don't stop there, each song song was stripped down and each got it`s own new sound with various new instruments added. My personal favorite is Developments or It`s new name Reflect with it`s vocal harmonies, haunting lyrics, and dramatic drums.

If your not keen on Post-Hardcore music or any other genre that it resembles I definitely recommend giving Reimagine a listen, and I highly recommend giving the band a chance. Who knows you might enjoy it. Alright that`s it for now,and as always don't be afraid to leave a comment. Let me know  what you think of the band, and suggestions for future topics. See ya!

Reason for absence

Hey guys,in case you haven`t noticed I`ve been away from the blog. There`s a few reasons for this,I recently moved to a new apartment and we`re trying to get the internet problem solved. Then there was a death in the family, but don`t worry I`m still here. I`ll be posting as soon as internet is fixed,so check back next week. As always I`d appreciate suggestions and comments. I`ll see you guys next week.

This is Me.

Hi guys! My name is Patrick, and I've been made co-author!

In keeping with the spirit of the blog I will try to keep all my posts centered around music, with my main focus being post-Hardcore, pop-punk, House, Wub-a-dub-dubstep, and maybe some classical.

Being a bass player, I'm more partial to music containing large amounts of low frequencies ,*cough* DUBSTEP *cough*, but I appreciate all the intricacies of a song, whether it's the little chimes that play for half a second in the extreme right of a recording, or if the guitar player changes rhythm to match the lyrics of the singer. Every little part adds to the whole, eventually creating a piece of art we call "Music."

So hopefully mine and Lucas' posts will give you some enjoyment throughout your day, and we can all continue to enjoy music together!

Top 10 Post-Hardcore album covers

For this weeks post I decided to do a top 10 list. I know this has been done to death but i`ll try to make it as original as possible. The topic is Post-Hardcore album art,JUST Post-Hardcore. Not hardcore, not metalcore, just post. That being said `ll be judging by the cover not the music. I actually don't like a few of the bands on this list, but like the covers. I've limited the list to one album from a band and no ep`s.

10.  Stutterfly- And we are bled of color

To start the list off is Stutterfly`s, And we are bleed of color. They`re an older band in the genre, and I can`t say I've seen or heard much until I started making this list. A friend actually suggested I look at this album for my list, and I`m glad he did! I just like the look of this cover,I`ts got a nice worn look to it that fits in the genre very well. If it wasn't for the fact that there`s not much going on,it would be higher on my list.

   09. Atreyu- Lead sails paper anchors 2.0

At number nine we have Atreyu`s, Lead sails paper anchors 2.0. I've always been a fan of this band and this album. Of course it was a no brainer it had a spot on this list. I mean who doesn't like a nice red filter on there art? This album marked a change in the sound of the band, and you could tell just by looking at this cover.

08. Silverstein - Discovering the waterfront

Next up we have Silverstein`s, Discovering the water front. This is another band that I haven't given the time of day. All I know is they write great poetry, have you read The Giving Tree? A real tear jerker. HAHA. All joking aside I love the art style on this cover. It inspires feelings of loneliness, hopelessness, and despair. Which means it fits the bands style of songwriting perfectly.

07.Circa Survive - On letting go

At number seven we have Circa Survive`s On letting go. I had a few problems with this one,First off most people you ask say that Circa Survive are not Post-Hardcore. I can`t disagree more, just listen to Living together. Then I had the devil`s own job trying to decide between this and Juturna (there first album),but I think I made the right call.

 06. A Day to Remember-Homesick

Dadada. Dadada. Da Da Da Da Da Da. Dadada. Dadada. Dadada. Da Da Da. LET`S GO?

05.Thursday/Envy

Next we have a two-for-one with this split album containing songs from both Thursday and Envy. This cover has so much going for it,like the birdnado. I`m finding it hard to give a good reason why this cover is so cool, it just fits so well.

04.Escape the Fate-Dying is your latest fashion

Next we have Escape the Fate`s, Dying is your latest fashion. Alright, alright I can already hear you guys complaining, but remember what I said, this is about the cover not the music and I`ll admit I have more than a few Escape the Fate songs on my phone right now. Come on you have to admit it takes guts to just put a very troubled young woman on your album and expect it to be groundbreaking, but it works. Just listen to Not Good Enough For Truth in Cliche,it`ll make sense.

   03. Coheed and Cambria-Good Apollo Burning Star IV

At number three is Coheed and Cambria`s, Good Apollo Burning Star IV. This album has a special place in my heart, but I will not get into that today. Just looking at the menacing guillotine on the front and then opening up the book and seeing the artwork inside just makes you wanna buy the CD right then and there. There's a reason these guys make comic books now.

02. Thrice-Vheissu

Next we have Thrice`s, Vheissu, now this is an album cover. It has so much stuff going on, like song lyrics and enough weird pictures to make you spin it a full 360 degrees trying to figure out and see them all. It radiates mystery and marks a point for the band to get away from it`s punk roots and adopt a new poetic songwriting style.

Honorable Mentions

 Saosin-Translating the name

This cover is the definition of minimalism proving that if you just put your band name on the cover and still be awesome, sadly it`s only an EP.

 Hands Like Houses -Ground dweller

If this was a top eleven list this would be on the list, but i just thought it didn't stack up to the other covers.

01.Chiodos-All`s Well That Ends Well

Taking the top spot on my list is Chiodos`, All`s Well That Ends Well. In classic Chiodos fashion this cover leaves you wondering what the hell is going on and loving every minute of it. Just take a minute and look at it,go ahead. This cover has stood the test of time coming out way back in 2005,and it`s still breathtaking.

Agree with the list? Disagree? let me know, and I wanna see your lists. This was fun and difficult at the same time. I rediscovered a lot of music while putting this list together. I would love to do another list so gimme some suggestions on lists you wanna see. Thanks for reading, and don't forget to come back next weekend for more music.

In the beginning...

Hey guys,I recently decided to start this blog about music. That means ALL music, not just techno-pop or emo-reggae or any other crazy sub-genre. It might not be positive though, because like everyone else I`ve got my own opinions.

Music is one thing every culture has in common. I don't think I've actually ever met someone who hates music.I have met a lot of people who hate certain genres or bands altogether. Like for instance I don't like country Western;that might be a little unsettling to some people;however,we`ll still talk about it.

Like I said we`re gonna discuss music, just music. If you`d like to read more I`ll be posting every week,a new topic each week. Next weeks post will be a lot longer,I`ll actually have something to write about. That being said I`d appreciate it you would come back every week, and I`d like to hear any feedback or ideas you guys might have.
